Ingredients
Scale
Dry Ingredients
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup whole wheat flour (or additional all-purpose flour)
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt
Wet Ingredients
- 1 cup plain Greek yogurt (non-fat recommended)
- 1 egg beaten with 1 tablespoon water (for egg wash)
Toppings (optional)
- Everything bagel seasoning
- Cinnamon sugar
- Rosemary Parmesan
- Shredded cheese (such as cheddar or Asiago)
Instructions
- Whisk: In a mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, whole wheat flour, baking powder, and kosher salt until well combined.
- Stir: Make a well in the center of the dry ingredients and add the plain Greek yogurt. Stir using a spoon or rubber spatula until the mixture forms a shaggy dough.
- Knead: Turn the shaggy dough onto a lightly floured surface. Knead for 1 to 2 minutes until the dough becomes smooth and elastic. If the dough is sticky, add a light dusting of flour to your hands and the work surface.
- Shape: Divide the dough into 4 equal portions. Roll each piece into a ball, then roll each ball into an 8 to 9-inch long rope approximately 3/4-inch thick. Form each rope into a ring by connecting the ends gently pressing to seal and form a classic bagel shape.
- Sprinkle: Place the shaped bagels on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Brush the tops with the beaten egg wash to help the seasoning adhere. Sprinkle with your choice of toppings such as everything bagel seasoning, cinnamon sugar, rosemary Parmesan, or shredded cheese.
- Cook: Arrange the bagels in a single layer inside the air fryer basket, ensuring they don’t touch (cook in batches if necessary). For easy transfer, remove the air fryer basket, place up to two bagels inside, then reinstall the basket in the air fryer. Air fry at 350°F (175°C) for 8 to 10 minutes or until the bagels are golden brown on top and evenly cooked on the sides.
- Cool: Remove bagels from the air fryer and let them cool slightly on a wire rack. Serve warm for best flavor and texture.
Notes
- If the dough is too sticky to handle, add flour sparingly to avoid drying out the bagels.
- You can customize toppings or leave bagels plain if preferred.
- For even cooking, avoid overcrowding the air fryer basket; cook in batches if needed.
- Use a parchment paper liner or spray the air fryer basket with non-stick spray to prevent sticking.
- Bagels are best enjoyed fresh but can be stored in an airtight container for up to 2 days or frozen for longer storage.
