  • Author: Lily
  • Total Time: 20 minutes
  • Yield: 24 pieces 1x

Description

Churro Saltine Toffee is a delightful and easy-to-make sweet treat featuring a crispy saltine cracker base topped with a buttery brown sugar toffee layer, melted white chocolate, and a sprinkle of cinnamon sugar. Inspired by churro flavors, this dessert combines crunchy, sweet, and cinnamon-spiced layers for an irresistible snack or party dessert.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Cinnamon Sugar Topping

  • 1/4 cup Sugar
  • 1 tsp Cinnamon

For the Base and Toffee Layer

  • 40 Saltine Crackers
  • 1 cup Salted Butter
  • 1 cup Brown Sugar

For the Chocolate Topping

  • 2 cups Ghirardelli White Chocolate Chips

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit to prepare for baking the toffee layer.
  2. Prepare Baking Sheet: Line a 10 x 15 inch baking sheet with aluminum foil and spray it with non-stick spray to prevent sticking.
  3. Mix Cinnamon Sugar: In a small bowl, whisk together 1/4 cup sugar and 1 teaspoon cinnamon. Set this mixture aside for topping later.
  4. Arrange Crackers: Place 40 saltine crackers in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet, covering the entire surface.
  5. Cook Toffee Sauce: In a saucepan, combine 1 cup salted butter and 1 cup brown sugar. Stir frequently and bring to a boil. Once boiling, continue stirring and cooking for 5 minutes to thicken the toffee.
  6. Pour Toffee over Crackers: Immediately pour the hot butter and brown sugar mixture evenly over the arranged saltine crackers. Spread it to cover all crackers thoroughly.
  7. Bake: Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for 5 minutes to set the toffee.
  8. Settle and Adjust Crackers: Remove from oven and let sit for 1-2 minutes to allow crackers to settle and the toffee to firm slightly. Use a butter knife to gently push any overlapping crackers back into place.
  9. Add White Chocolate: Sprinkle 2 cups of white chocolate chips evenly over the warm toffee covered crackers. Let them sit for a few minutes until the chocolate chips melt.
  10. Spread Chocolate and Add Cinnamon Sugar: Once melted, spread the white chocolate evenly over the toffee layer, then immediately sprinkle the cinnamon sugar mixture on top.
  11. Cut and Serve: Allow the toffee to cool and harden completely before cutting or breaking into pieces. Serve and enjoy!

Notes

  • Make sure to stir the toffee mixture continuously once it reaches boiling to avoid burning.
  • You can substitute white chocolate chips with semi-sweet or milk chocolate if desired.
  • Use salted butter as specified for flavor balance; unsalted butter will change taste.
  • Ensure the crackers are arranged tightly to hold the toffee well.
  • Let the toffee cool completely for the best texture before cutting.
  • This toffee can be stored in an airtight container for up to one week.
