Description

This Easy 5-Minute McGriddle recipe recreates the iconic breakfast sandwich with soft maple-flavored pancakes, savory eggs, crispy bacon or sausage, and melty American cheese. Perfect for a quick yet indulgent morning meal, these homemade McGriddles are delicious, customizable, and ready in under 30 minutes.

Ingredients

Scale

Pancake Batter

  • 1 cup pancake mix (like Bisquick)
  • ¾ cup milk
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 3 tablespoons maple syrup
  • 2 tablespoons maple sugar or brown sugar (optional, for extra maple flavor)

Eggs and Seasoning

  • 4 large eggs
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Meat and Cheese

  • 4 slices American cheese
  • 8 strips bacon, cooked until crispy OR 4 breakfast sausage patties

Additional

  • Butter or cooking spray for greasing
  • Extra maple syrup for serving

Instructions

  1. Prepare the batter: In a medium bowl, whisk together pancake mix, milk, 1 egg, and vegetable oil until just combined (small lumps are okay). Gently fold in 3 tablespoons maple syrup and maple sugar if using. Let the batter rest for 5 minutes to improve texture.
  2. Heat the skillet: Warm a non-stick skillet or griddle over medium heat. Lightly grease with butter or cooking spray to prevent sticking.
  3. Cook the pancakes: For uniform pancakes, place a 3.5-inch round cookie cutter or mason jar ring on the cooking surface. Pour about 3 tablespoons of batter into each ring. Cook pancakes for 2-3 minutes until bubbles form on the surface and edges look set. Carefully remove the ring, flip the pancake, and cook 1-2 more minutes until golden. Repeat to make 8 pancakes total. Keep warm under a towel.
  4. Cook the eggs: In the same skillet over medium heat, use the ring molds if desired to cook eggs evenly. Crack eggs into rings, break yolks, and season with salt and pepper. Add a few drops of water to the pan, cover, and cook for 1-2 minutes for set whites or 3-4 minutes for fully cooked yolks.
  5. Prepare the meat: Cook bacon strips until crispy, about 3-4 minutes per side, or heat sausage patties according to package instructions until browned and fully cooked.
  6. Assemble sandwiches: Place one pancake on a plate, add a slice of American cheese, then a cooked egg, followed by 2 strips of bacon or 1 sausage patty. Top with a second pancake.
  7. Finish and serve: Press sandwiches gently to seal. For an authentic touch, brush the tops lightly with warm maple syrup. Serve immediately while warm, or keep assembled sandwiches warm in a 200°F oven until ready to serve.

Notes

  • Using a ring mold ensures uniform shapes for pancakes and eggs, but you can cook freeform if preferred.
  • Maple sugar or brown sugar is optional but enhances the rich maple flavor in the pancakes.
  • To make fully cooked yolks, cover the eggs while cooking and allow 3-4 minutes after the whites set.
  • Keep cooked pancakes warm by covering them with a clean kitchen towel or placing them in a low oven.
  • You can substitute turkey bacon or plant-based sausage for a different protein option.
