Grilled Cheese Burrito Recipe

  • Author: Lily
  • Total Time: 25 minutes
  • Yield: 4 burritos 1x

Description

This Grilled Cheese Burrito recipe combines savory seasoned ground beef, creamy nacho cheese, chipotle sauce, and melty cheddar and mozzarella cheeses all wrapped in a soft flour tortilla, then grilled to golden, crispy perfection. It’s a hearty and flavorful twist on the classic burrito, perfect for a satisfying lunch or dinner.

Ingredients

Scale

Meat and Seasoning

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 packet taco seasoning (or homemade blend)
  • 1/4 cup water

Fillings

  • 1 cup cooked white rice
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1/2 cup nacho cheese sauce
  • 1/4 cup chipotle sauce
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

Wrap and Cooking

  • 4 large flour tortillas
  • Butter or oil for grilling (optional, if desired for extra crispiness)

Instructions

  1. Cook the Beef: Brown the ground beef in a skillet over medium heat until fully cooked, about 8 to 10 minutes. Drain any excess grease. Add the taco seasoning and 1/4 cup water, then simmer the mixture for 5 minutes until the flavors meld and the sauce thickens slightly.
  2. Warm the Tortillas: Heat the flour tortillas on a dry skillet or briefly in the microwave until soft and flexible to make assembling and folding easier.
  3. Assemble the Burrito: Lay a warmed tortilla flat on a clean surface. Spread a layer of cooked white rice, then top with the seasoned ground beef. Add nacho cheese sauce and chipotle sauce evenly over the beef. Dollop with sour cream, then top everything with shredded cheddar and mozzarella cheese.
  4. Grill the Burrito: Heat a clean skillet over medium heat and sprinkle about 2 tablespoons of shredded cheese onto the pan. Place the assembled burrito seam-side down onto the cheese and cook for 3 to 4 minutes until the cheese melts and forms a crispy crust. Carefully flip the burrito and repeat on the other side to create a golden, cheesy exterior.

Notes

  • You can substitute ground turkey or chicken for a lighter option.
  • Adjust the amount of chipotle sauce to control the spice level.
  • Butter or oil can be added to the skillet for extra crispiness during grilling.
  • Serve with salsa, guacamole, or hot sauce for added flavor.
  • Leftovers can be reheated in a skillet or microwave but will be crispiest if reheated on a skillet.
