Hissy Fit Dip Recipe

  • Author: Lily
  • Total Time: 45 minutes
  • Yield: 8 servings 1x

Description

Hissy Fit Dip is a creamy, cheesy, and mildly spicy baked dip featuring a savory blend of cream cheese, sour cream, mayo, sharp cheddar, and pepper jack cheeses combined with flavorful cooked sausage and green chiles. Perfectly seasoned with Worcestershire sauce and a hint of smoky paprika and cayenne, this dip is baked until bubbly and golden, making it a crowd-pleasing appetizer served warm with crackers, chips, or bread.

Ingredients

Scale

Base

  • 1 8 oz package cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1 cup mayonnaise

Cheeses

  • 2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup shredded pepper jack cheese

Meat & Veggies

  • 1 cup cooked ground sausage (mild or spicy, crumbled)
  • 1 4 oz can diced green chiles, drained

Seasonings

  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder
  • ½ teaspoon smoked paprika
  • ¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional, for heat)
  • Salt and black pepper (to taste)

Garnish & Serving

  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley (optional, for garnish)
  • Crackers, tortilla chips, or bread slices (for serving)

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a medium baking dish or cast-iron skillet to prevent sticking.
  2. Cook the Sausage: In a skillet over medium heat, cook the ground sausage until it is browned and crumbled. Once cooked, drain any excess grease to keep the dip from being too oily.
  3. Mix the Base: In a large mixing bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, sour cream, and mayonnaise. Stir thoroughly until the mixture becomes smooth and creamy.
  4. Add Cheese & Flavor: Add the shredded sharp cheddar cheese, shredded pepper jack cheese, cooked sausage, drained diced green chiles, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, cayenne pepper (if using), and salt and black pepper to the base mixture. Stir until all ingredients are evenly combined.
  5. Bake: Spread the prepared mixture evenly into the greased baking dish. Bake uncovered in the preheated oven for 25 to 30 minutes or until the dip is hot, bubbly, and golden brown on top.
  6. Serve Hot: Remove from the oven and optionally garnish with freshly chopped parsley. Serve the dip warm with crackers, tortilla chips, or slices of bread.

Notes

  • For a spicier dip, increase the cayenne pepper or use spicy sausage.
  • Make sure to drain the cooked sausage well to avoid excess grease in the dip.
  • This dip can be prepared a day ahead and baked just before serving.
  • If you prefer, use a cast-iron skillet for baking to enhance the crust and flavor.
  • Leftovers can be refrigerated for up to 3 days and reheated in the oven.
