Description
Monte Cristo Sliders are a delicious twist on the classic sandwich, featuring layers of smoked ham, smoked roasted turkey, and Gruyère cheese on sweet Hawaiian rolls. These sliders are brushed with a buttery, tangy sauce and baked until golden and melty, then dusted with powdered sugar and served with raspberry preserves for a perfect balance of savory and sweet.
Ingredients
Scale
Slider Components
- 1 package Sweet Hawaiian Dinner Rolls (12-count)
- ½ pound deli sliced smoked ham
- ½ pound deli sliced smoked roasted turkey
- ½ pound Gruyère cheese (hand grated)
Sauce
- 1 stick salted butter (melted)
- 1 egg (beaten)
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
- 2 tablespoons mayonnaise
For Serving
- Powdered sugar (for dusting)
- Raspberry preserves (for dipping)
Instructions
- Prepare the Baking Dish: Preheat your oven to 325°F. Line a 9×13-inch baking dish with parchment paper or foil, leaving an overhang on the sides to lift the sliders out easily after baking. Lightly coat the lined dish with cooking spray to prevent sticking.
- Assemble the Sliders: Without separating the rolls, slice the entire package horizontally to create a top and bottom half. Place the bottom half of the rolls in the prepared baking dish. Layer smoked ham, roasted turkey, and grated Gruyère cheese evenly over the bottom half.
- Make the Sauce: In a small bowl, whisk together melted butter, beaten egg, Worcestershire sauce, Dijon mustard, and mayonnaise until smooth and combined.
- Saucing and Baking: Pour half of the sauce evenly over the layered meat and cheese. Place the top half of the sliced rolls over the assembly, pressing down lightly. Pour the remaining sauce over the top and brush it evenly across the rolls. Bake uncovered for 25 to 30 minutes until the sliders are golden brown. If the tops brown too quickly, cover loosely with foil to prevent burning.
- Finish and Serve: Remove sliders from the oven and let cool for 5 to 10 minutes. Use the parchment handles to lift the entire slab onto a cutting board. Slice into individual sliders with a sharp knife. Dust generously with powdered sugar and serve warm with raspberry preserves on the side for dipping.
Notes
- Keeping the rolls connected during assembly makes it easier to layer and bake the sliders uniformly.
- Adjust baking time if necessary depending on your oven to prevent over-browning.
- Powdered sugar adds a classic touch and balances the savory flavors.
- Raspberry preserves enhance the sandwich with a sweet and tart flavor complement.
- For extra crispiness, broil for an additional 1-2 minutes at the end, watching carefully.
