  • 1012 shrimp, tail off and deveined
  • 1 tsp seafood seasoning
  • 3 tsp vegetable oil, divided

For the Dirty Rice:

  • 1 lb hamburger meat
  • 1 lb ground pork sausage
  • 4 cups cooked rice
  • 2 cups broth (Better Than Bouillon chicken broth recommended)
  • 1.5 cups mixed onions and bell peppers, chopped
  • 3 tbsp vegetable oil, divided
  • 1/4 cup flour
  • 1 tbsp oregano
  • 3 tsp minced garlic
  • 1 tsp thyme
  • 1 tbsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp chili powder
  • 1/2 tsp pepper, more to taste
  • 1/2 tsp salt, more to taste
  • Pinch of cayenne pepper

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Shrimp: Season shrimp with seafood seasoning. Cook in a skillet with 2 tsp of oil for 2-3 minutes per side, then set aside.
  2. Cook the Meat: In the same skillet, cook hamburger meat and sausage until browned.
  3. Add Vegetables and Seasoning: Add onions, bell peppers, and garlic. Cook until softened. Add oregano, thyme, garlic powder, onion powder, chili powder, pepper, salt, and cayenne.
  4. Incorporate Flour and Broth: Sprinkle flour over the mixture, then slowly pour in broth. Simmer for 5-7 minutes.
  5. Combine with Rice and Shrimp: Add rice to the skillet, simmer for 5 minutes. Mix in shrimp.
  6. Serve and Enjoy: Garnish with green onions or parsley and serve hot.
