For the Shrimp:
- 10–12 shrimp, tail off and deveined
- 1 tsp seafood seasoning
- 3 tsp vegetable oil, divided
For the Dirty Rice:
- 1 lb hamburger meat
- 1 lb ground pork sausage
- 4 cups cooked rice
- 2 cups broth (Better Than Bouillon chicken broth recommended)
- 1.5 cups mixed onions and bell peppers, chopped
- 3 tbsp vegetable oil, divided
- 1/4 cup flour
- 1 tbsp oregano
- 3 tsp minced garlic
- 1 tsp thyme
- 1 tbsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp onion powder
- 1 tsp chili powder
- 1/2 tsp pepper, more to taste
- 1/2 tsp salt, more to taste
- Pinch of cayenne pepper
Instructions
- Prepare the Shrimp: Season shrimp with seafood seasoning. Cook in a skillet with 2 tsp of oil for 2-3 minutes per side, then set aside.
- Cook the Meat: In the same skillet, cook hamburger meat and sausage until browned.
- Add Vegetables and Seasoning: Add onions, bell peppers, and garlic. Cook until softened. Add oregano, thyme, garlic powder, onion powder, chili powder, pepper, salt, and cayenne.
- Incorporate Flour and Broth: Sprinkle flour over the mixture, then slowly pour in broth. Simmer for 5-7 minutes.
- Combine with Rice and Shrimp: Add rice to the skillet, simmer for 5 minutes. Mix in shrimp.
- Serve and Enjoy: Garnish with green onions or parsley and serve hot.
