Smash Burger Tacos Recipe

  • Author: Lily
  • Total Time: 22 minutes
  • Yield: 4 tacos 1x

Description

Smash Burger Tacos combine the best of two favorites: juicy, crispy-edged smashed beef patties served in soft flour tortillas. This recipe creates a flavorful, cheesy taco experience with classic toppings like shredded lettuce, diced onions, and dill pickle chips, perfect for a quick and satisfying dinner.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Tacos

  • 4 flour tortillas (6 inches)
  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 tablespoon neutral oil (vegetable, canola, or avocado)
  • 4 slices American cheese (or preferred cheese)

Toppings

  • 1 small onion, diced
  • Dill pickle chips
  • Shredded iceberg lettuce

Instructions

  1. Divide the Beef: Separate the pound of ground beef into 4 equal portions to form the base for each taco’s patty.
  2. Prepare the Tortillas: Lay out each flour tortilla and spread one portion of ground beef evenly over its surface, seasoning with salt and pepper to taste.
  3. Heat the Skillet: Warm a non-stick skillet over medium-high heat and add 1 tablespoon of neutral oil to prevent sticking and aid in browning.
  4. Cook the Beef Side: Place each tortilla beef-side down in the skillet. Cook for 2-3 minutes until the beef is golden brown and crispy on the edges.
  5. Add Cheese and Flip: Carefully flip the tortillas and top the beef side with a slice of American cheese. Cook for an additional 1-3 minutes until the cheese melts.
  6. Repeat Cooking: Remove the cooked taco from the skillet and repeat the cooking for the other tortillas following the same steps.
  7. Assemble the Tacos: Top each cooked smash burger taco with shredded iceberg lettuce, diced onions, and dill pickle chips to add freshness and crunch.

Notes

  • Use lean ground beef for a healthier option with less grease.
  • Feel free to substitute American cheese with cheddar or pepper jack for extra flavor.
  • For a gluten-free version, replace flour tortillas with corn tortillas.
  • Cook on medium-high heat to ensure the beef crisps up nicely without burning.
  • Customize your tacos with additional toppings like salsa, sour cream, or hot sauce if desired.
